Caregiver in Irvine CA
When you’re taking on the huge task of being a family caregiver, the stress that you’re under is powerful. The sooner you can take a big bite out of your stress levels, the better. Here are some really big ways that you can get your stress to take a back seat.
Get Out Into Nature
No matter what time of year it is, there is always something happening outside that can make you gasp in wonder. If you don’t take the time to enjoy these little gifts from nature, you can start to feel deprived. Make time several times a week to get yourself out into nature. Make it a habit with your loved one, if you can, to take a nature walk or just to enjoy being outside. It’s amazing the things that you notice when you allow yourself the time and the space to notice them.
Donate Time to Something or Someone Else
You might be thinking that as a family caregiver, you’re already donating quite a bit of your time to someone else. That’s true, but there are probably other causes that are near and dear to your heart. You don’t have to spend a lot of time or effort, but giving back to your own community somehow is a way to open your heart up and to keep yourself from drowning in your own stress. Make a commitment to another group or person a few times a month or even just once a season. That little bit of giving back warms your heart and gives you more than you’re giving to someone else.
Practice Gratitude
Gratitude is incredibly powerful and it can help you to see that even the negative things in life are there to help you or to teach you a lesson. When you start to look at everything in your life from an attitude of gratitude, you can appreciate every little thing so much more. Try keeping a small gratitude list every evening before bed. At first it might seem like it takes a lot of thought and effort to come up with say three things for which to be grateful. As you gain practice, you’ll start to realize how much you have to be grateful for.
Take even one of these tips to heart and you’ll see a huge difference in your stress levels.
