If you haven’t already, it’s not too late to help your loved one get some much-needed spring cleaning done around her home so that she can be ready for summertime fun. With cold winter months behind, she might be ready to shed some of the items that have been filling her home all winter as well as clean up some areas so they’re ready to be enjoyed this summer. You can help your loved one or her home care assistance team may also be able to help with some of these special projects. Just let her home care assistance providers know what you’d like worked on during their next visit.
Here are some great areas for you and home care assistance aides to focus on that sometimes get overlooked in spring cleaning.
Patios and Porches
During those cold months, it seems patios and porches often become storage grounds for items we don’t want to carry out to the garage or put in the garbage can. Old, empty boxes, Christmas decorations, and a plethora of boots, scarves, and other winter gear can bury all of the wonderful patio furniture that’s ready for summer evening teas watching the fireflies flit by.
The first task is to empty out the porch or patio by bringing items to their real homes (such as the attic or garage), tossing out items not needed, and storing items for next year. Having a home care assistance provider with this will make sure your loved one doesn’t try to lift anything too heavy.
Once the room is cleared out, then get all of the furniture cleaned, sweep the floors, and dust around the room to give it the fresh feel it needs for summer enjoyment. Add some new bright pillows or a floral arrangement and your loved one will be able to enjoy her newly cleaned area each time she enters.
Garages
Another area that often becomes more for storage during the winter. Spring is the time to clean out all of those items that gathered in the corners. It’s also a great time to clean the floor of the garage with a good sweep to get all of the winter sand and salt from the roadways off of the flooring. It’s often not a bad idea to also check to see if any little critters have made the garage their home for the winter and take the steps needed to get rid of them.
Breezeways and Entrances
If those clunky winter boots are still sitting in the corner of the breezeway, put them away for the season so sandals and flip-flops can take their place. Take rugs and shake them out (and wash them if possible) This area can always use a good scrubbing down from all of the melted snow and grime that built up over the winter.
Summer always seems to go by too quickly, so it’s time to make sure your loved one’s home is ready for the season so she can enjoy every minute of it.
